Allentown Art Museum x Circle 31
Full disclosure, this project was done as a volunteer. Yes, we make stuff for fun too! The Art Tasting Menu is a self-guided tour of five special works inside the Allentown Art Museum, which new visitors could see to get a “taste” from inside each gallery. The piece is super fun, but it was created with loads of thought and purpose!
All visitor-driven organizations across the U.S. are focused on attracting newer, younger and more diverse audiences. Research shows that Millennials can be loyal supporters and ideal patrons of Museums, if you can get them to come that first time. The Tasting Menu addressed several pain-points for the organization and its volunteers: 1. Staff could invite individuals from the community and potential new members to try The Art Tasting Menu on their own time at no additional cost after the price of admission. Meaning, it felt like an event without having to host an event. 2. The Tasting Menu made the idea of a Museum-experience easier to swallow for audiences who would otherwise not visit a Museum due to the large commitment of attention, or feelings of not belonging.
It is fresh content, but evergreen enough to be useful for 6-18 months as the exhibitions remain open to the public.
Important Note
We added the iPhone iCon since younger visitors want to share their experiences on social media and not all Museum-quality artwork can be exposed to flash photography. It was an extra touch to say, “Hey Millennial, you are welcome here!”
