Allentown Art Museum x Homebase 610

As social people, we don’t wait for opportunity to knock. We hang a disco ball over the doorway and invite opportunity over to dance! One such opportunity was seized through a partnership with the Allentown Art Museum and 2nd Base Vintage of Easton, PA. In the 12-18 months prior, the Museum had experienced an increase in social media posts and tags due to two large, interactive exhibitions that have a strong Instagram-forward aesthetic.

Visitors could stand inside or near the works of art and take photos of themselves as though it was a professionally staged photo shoot. A third such exhibition was about to open in the Museum foyer featuring Ai Weiwei’s “Golden Age” wallpaper from floor to ceiling. It was VERY Insta-worthy! Rather than waiting that same 12-18 months for social media traffic to trickle in, we invited the talented team of stylists from 2nd Base Vintage to do a photo shoot of their new inventory in front of the exhibition. 2nd Base Vintage and their flagship store, Homebase610, have a combined 35K Instagram followers— way more than any account that took photos in the first two exhibitions. Ai Weiwei’s work fit the aesthetic of 2nd Base’s brand, and shop owner, Andy Po, is a longtime community organizer and friend of rebel artists like Weiwei. The result was weeks worth of content for both groups and the beginning of a buzz for the Museum across Instagram. Bijou Penn saw a unique marketing opportunity for cross promotion, made the introductions, monitored production, and let the other creatives do their thing!
